‘A New Landscape’ explores the fear of urban sprawl into green spaces, featuring photos from my family archive (2000 – 2009) and comparing them to photos taken in 2023, emphasizing the difference new builds make when invading into the countryside. This was a personal project I undertook. My parents bought a cottage in the early 2000s in the quiet countryside of South Scotland; they spent the good part of 17 years renovating it in their spare time into their perfect home where they raised my brother and I. In the quick span of a few years, the field next to us was sold and turned into 3 new houses specially designed from scratch for the upper class, quickly ruining the illusion of tranquility my parents once uphold. My aim was to show the contrast between the ‘before and after’, and the fear urban sprawl has brought upon my quiet street.
