I created this series of images and writing inspired by the recent surge of internet phrases surrounding girlhood. ‘I am just a girl’ features personal experiences and aspects of growing up as a girl and accepting these moving into my twenties and letting go of my childhood and teenage years. Growing up, I always felt alone in my experiences – whether this be my anxious overthinking and yearning over things I wish I could return to, or the unfortunate experience of an eating disorder; but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized how common these are in all the women I’m surrounded by, and the way we bond about it now makes me appreciate our girlhood and the way we connect in our unfortunateness. In ‘I am just a girl’, I feature an array of landscapes exploring my emotions, self-portraiture, polaroids, portraits of women I know, and personal handwritten notes.
